Mathematics at St. Mary's is delivered in an interactive and enjoyable way, enabling all children to actively participate in the learning process, thus creating a sense of achievement and confidence. There is a strong emphasis on the development of mental and written calculations and giving opportunities for pupils to use and apply mathematics through problem solving.
Mathematics is taught through a daily lesson which follows the principles and aims of the National Curriculum. These lessons may be supported with the use of Abacus Evolve (Mathematics scheme). In order to develop Mathematical skills, pupils may be set across the year group in order to meet the needs of learners. Interventions may also be delivered outside of daily mathematics lessons to provide additional support. Class teachers also plan for opportunities to develop and apply key mathematical skills in other subjects throughout the year.
