Music

It is our intention at St Mary's to make music an enjoyable learning experience for pupils and teachers. We encourage all children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build their love of music, self-confidence and sense of archievement. Pupils develop their understanding of rhythm and pitch and learn how music is structured, as well as learning technical vocabulary for these elements. As children's confidence builds, they enjoy the performance aspect of music. In addition to this, we want children to gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing an instrument, evaluating, analysing and composing across a wide range of historical periods, styles, traditions and musical genres. Our objective is to develop a curiosity for the subject as well as an understanding of the validity and significance of all types of music.
